Basic information of Mill Finish Aluminum Honeycomb Panels for Stone:

Mill Finish Aluminum Honeycomb Panels are un-coated (un-painted) aluminum honeycomb sandwich panels. It is same structure like normal aluminum honeycomb panels: two layers of aluminum sheets and an aluminum honeycomb core. The only specialty is the surface of aluminum is mill finish, which is without any paints or coating. The reason of making surface to be mill finish aluminum, is in order to make it possible for stone veneer to glue on. The mill finish aluminum honeycomb panels are used as substrate (backing panels) to make stone honeycomb panels.

The thickness of aluminum honeycomb panels are subjects to customer's requirements. Generally this backing panel is between 8mm to 50mm. And stone veneer customers can make it from 3mm up to 8mm depending on what types of stone it is and the strength requirements.

Why do we use Mill Finish Aluminum Honeycomb Panels for Stone:

1. We use aluminum honeycomb panels for stone backing, one reason is to reduce the total panel weight; The other reason is to enough panel strength. Solid stone slabs are heavy and fragile, because we need to use thickness around 18mm thick. But if we use aluminum honeycomb panels as backing panels, we can use just a thin layer of 3mm or 5mm real stone to glue on it. Then we can get a total thickness of 18mm or 25mm etc. Aluminum honeycomb panels are very lightweight, so it reduces the stone honeycomb panels a lot. And aluminum is not fragile like stone, so with its support under the stone, the whole stone veneer is much stronger.

2. Cost saving. Some stone patterns are rare and expensive. When we use stone slabs we use a thickness between 18mm to 25mm, that consumes a lot of real stone. We use the mill finish aluminum honeycomb panels as backing to make stone honeycomb, we just consume 3mm or 5mm thick real stone. That means one stone slabs now can be made into 3 to 4 stone honeycomb panels, but remains same decoration effects.

3. We use aluminum honeycomb panels in mill finish, rather than color coated, to be as the backing panel. It is because un-coated surface is easier to glue stone on to.
